The Sacred Union of Shiva and Shakti
Located in the heart of Deoghar, Jharkhand, Baba Baidyanath Dham is one of the most sacred spots on Earth. It is a rare “Siddha Peetha,” where two divine energies converge: it is both one of the 12 Jyotirlingas and one of the 51 Shakti Peethas.
Why is it called the ‘Kamna Lingam’?
Unlike other Jyotirlingas, the Shivalingam here is known as the Kamna Lingam (the Lingam of Desire). It is believed that anyone who performs a sincere Sankalp here with a pure heart finds their deepest prayers answered by Mahadev, the Lord of Physicians (Baidyanath).
The Unique Legend of Ravana
The temple’s history is tied to the king of Lanka, Ravana, who performed intense penance to bring Lord Shiva to his kingdom. Lord Shiva agreed to go in the form of a Lingam but warned that if it were placed on the ground, it would remain there forever. By divine intervention, the Lingam was established here in Deoghar, making this soil eternally holy.
The Sacred Gathbandhan
A sight found nowhere else in the world is the red silk ribbons tied between the Shikhara of the main Shiva temple and the Maa Parvati temple. This Gathbandhan (holy union) symbolizes the eternal bond between Shiva and Shakti, offering a powerful blessing for family harmony and long-lasting marriages.

शिव और शक्ति का दिव्य संगम
झारखंड के देवघर में स्थित बाबा बैद्यनाथ धाम पृथ्वी पर सबसे पवित्र स्थानों में से एक है। यह एक दुर्लभ “सिद्ध पीठ” है, जहाँ दो दिव्य ऊर्जाओं का मिलन होता है: यह 12 ज्योतिर्लिंगों में से एक होने के साथ-साथ 51 शक्ति पीठों में भी गिना जाता है।
इसे ‘मनोकामना लिंग’ क्यों कहा जाता है?
अन्य ज्योतिर्लिंगों के विपरीत, यहाँ के शिवलिंग को मनोकामना लिंग के रूप में जाना जाता है। ऐसी मान्यता है कि जो भी भक्त यहाँ शुद्ध हृदय से संकल्प करता है, महादेव (वैद्यों के नाथ – बैद्यनाथ) उसकी हर प्रार्थना स्वीकार करते हैं।
रावण की पौराणिक कथा
इस मंदिर का इतिहास लंकापति रावण से जुड़ा है, जिसने भगवान शिव को अपनी लंका ले जाने के लिए घोर तपस्या की थी। शिव जी लिंग रूप में जाने के लिए तैयार हुए, लेकिन एक शर्त रखी कि यदि इसे कहीं भी भूमि पर रखा गया, तो यह वहीं स्थापित हो जाएगा। दैवीय विधान से यह लिंग देवघर की पावन भूमि पर स्थापित हुआ, जिससे यह स्थान अनंत काल के लिए पवित्र हो गया।
पवित्र गठबंधन की परंपरा
विश्व में और कहीं न दिखने वाला एक अद्भुत दृश्य यहाँ का ‘गठबंधन’ है। मुख्य शिव मंदिर और माँ पार्वती मंदिर के शिखरों के बीच बँधे हुए लाल रेशमी धागे (गठबंधन) शिव और शक्ति के अटूट संबंध का प्रतीक हैं। यह गठबंधन पारिवारिक सुख-शांति और सुखी वैवाहिक जीवन के लिए एक महान आशीर्वाद माना जाता है।
